Magnesium Products
Magnesium, along with Phosphorous and Sodium, is one of the major minerals in animal nutrition.
Magnesium plays several important roles in bodily function, but is most widely used to prevent Hypomagnesaemia (Staggers) in Dairy and Suckler cows.
This condition arises when Magnesium levels in the blood reach critically low levels. Any lactating animal can be affected, especially (but not exclusively) during periods of lush grass, eg: Spring, Autumn flush, etc.
Dry Cows may also be vulnerable immediately after calving.
Magnesium is available from a number sources including:
Calcined Magnesite (Magnesium Oxide)
The most widely used form of Magnesium.
Particularly useful for Dry Cows.
High Magnesium Minerals
A fully balanced mineral supplement with a high magnesium content. Available as 'in-feed' or 'free access'.
High Magnesium Mineral Buckets
High Mag Mineral Buckets are a convenient means of supplying magnesium, and other essential minerals and vitamins, in situations where it is not possible to use conventional powdered minerals, e.g. Suckler Cows, Sheep at grass, overwintered animals not receiving 'hard feed' and Dry Cows. Magnesium is not particularly palatable, however, the molasses used in the manufacture of mineral bucksts, overcomes this problem. Buckets can be used in yards or at grass. Allow 1 x 20kg bucket per 15 head of livestock.
Zero copper formulations are available for sheep.
