Milk Plus

Milk Plus is a special fatty acid blend, containing roux syrup as a source of glucose together with high levels of Omega 3 and C16 fatty acids, processed into a free flowing dust-free meal. 

Background

Dairy Direct market research has identified the need for an energy supplement that will boost milk yields, increase butterfats and, at the same time, aid fertility and general health.

Milk Plus has been formulated to fulfil this role.

Milk-Plus has a high concentration of specially selected oils, on a Palm Kernel carrier.

Milk yield is stimulated by Omega 3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), that increases Rumen microbial activity and yield of volatile fatty acids, particularly propionate – that is needed for milk production.

For Fertility, a recent investigation has identified that two major causes of ‘infertility’ are excessive negative energy balance / condition, pre and immediately post calving when the follicles are being generated, and the death of embryos prior to implantation. 

Negative energy balance starts 2-3 weeks prior to calving with the development of the udder, the manufacture of colostrum and the growing foetus.  Feeding extra energy prior to calving in pre-calving diets, and again in early lactation, will help to reduce it.  The oils in Milk-Plus can provide this extra energy.

The development of the follicle in early lactation depends on the supply of EPA and DHA fatty acids, as well as Stearic acid as they are essential in cell wall building.

The survival of the embryo in the uterus prior to implantation depends on its ability to release nutrients into the uterus, and that they are available when required.

The stimulation of supply depends on the vigour of the embryo and that is a reflection of how well it was developed – see above.  The supply of the nutrients is governed by the supply of EPA and DHA.  A low level will restrict the nutrients available.

Milk-Plus contains fish oil with a high EPA and DHA content, as well as palm oil – a source of Stearic Acid.

The Product

Milk Plus is a free flowing meal.  A specially selected oilseed meal carrier ensures that the oils are partially bound so that they are slowly released in the Rumen allowing maximum digestion and absorption.

Feeding

It is recommended that Milk Plus be added to TMR diets, home mixed diets, blends, and compounds.  It can also be fed as a straight.  Milk Plus is suitable for Dairy and Beef Cows, Sheep, and Goats.

The recommended feeding rate for Dairy Cows is 0.5 – 1.0kg per head per day, fed from 14-21 days prior to calving and up to 100 days after.  In compound mixes, the typical inclusion rate is 100 kg/tonne, but up to 200 kg/tonne is possible as part of a balanced diet.  For herds that cannot be grouped, feed 250 -500gms/head/day to all cows throughout.
 

For Ewes and Nanny Goats up to 250 gms/head/day can be fed.

Packaging: Milk Plus is packed in 25kg plastic bags and stacked 1.25 tonnes per pallet.

Storage:  Store in a cool dry place.  Contains antioxidants and preservatives.
